Museums and Galleries in Chile Some of Santiago's best museums are within a short walk from Plaza de Armas in the downtown area. The Chile Information Project (777-5376) offers comprehensive and interest cultural tours for those just arriving to Chile. The Museo de Arte Precolombino (Museum of Pre-Columbian Art) features a collection of ancient indigenous artifacts, some of which date as far back as 4,000 years. Directly on the plaza is the Museo Histórico Nacional (National Historical Museum), which offers a chronology of Chile's history from Pre-Columbian times to 1973.
A few blocks away in Parque Forestal, the Museo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum) shows temporary exhibits and a collection of Chile's best art. El Museo Interactivo Mirador offers not only exhibitions of science, art and technology for both children and adults, but also workshops and 3D cinema performances. Seeing that museos may not be open throughout the whole year e.g. they are being renovated, it is recomendable to phone them before you visit them.
