Chilean Television
There are five nation-wide television stations based in Santiago. Televisión
Nacional (Channel 7) is the only state-owned television station.
Santiago’s Catholic University originally ran UCTV. Although
it is now privately owned, the university still contributes to the station’s
programming with Teleduc. Teleduc provides educational
and cultural programming, often hosted by Catholic University students
and professors.
Most news programs air for an hour on weekdays at 8:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m.,
9:00 p.m. and midnight. On network television you will not find any
English programming. Television stations always dub over English movies.

Cable TV
Since its introduction in 1987, cable TV has gained such popularity that it competes with network television. Cable television companies often carry English-language news like CNN International and Voice of America. Premium channels like HBO and Canal Cine offer movies and television programs in English with Spanish sub-titles. One of the most popular cable stations is The Sony Channel, which shows popular American sit-coms 24-hours a day.
