Chilean Newspapers Chile has about 50 newspapers throughout
the country. There is a very competitive newspaper market in Santiago,
with about a dozen dailies to choose from.
The two most important dailies are El Mercurio and La Tercera.
These two papers provide the most comprehensive coverage. Up until recently,
La Segunda was Santiago’s only afternoon paper, but now it is
one of three. Estrategia and El Diario are Santiago’s
business dailies. La Nación is considered Santiago’s only
left-wing daily.
Newspapers are sold at newsstands throughout the city. Free newspapers
are distributed at Metro stations. Most papers cost 250 or 300 pesos.
