You´re in: Home / Plaza de Armas

This downtown neighborhood is a bit more rushed than the other central city neighborhoods highlighted on this website. It truly reflects the hustle and bustle typical of any world class city, and it feeds into the capital city’s most important pedestrian walkway – Huerfanos Street.
Yet the Plaza de Armas also has a slower side – a reasonably priced, international style hostel overlooks the plaza, and there are numerous restaurants and museums radiating out from the natural hub formed by the Plaza.
This main square was tastefully renovated at the turn of the century in an effort to make it more of a people’s square. Indeed, the eastern section of the square features numerous chess tables which are fully occupied most afternoons, and on special holidays the local firemen’s orchestra often gives a performance from the special musical canopy constructed for that purpose.
Be sure to visit the interesting collection of artists that paint and show their wares daily on the square. And, if your are able, try to catch the various comedy acts that street performers regularly give immediately in front of the Catholic Church Cathedral.
Best access: Metro Plaza de Armas.
