You´re in: Home / Bellas Artes

A real gentrification has occurred in this very green, yet very urban downtown neighborhood in just the past three years.
It is the result of young, professional Chileans migrating to the center of the
city – either rehabbing large, dilapidated apartments that used to house a much older generation, or occupying one of the modern new high rises that now dot the neighborhood. There is a profound sociological change behind all of this: young Chilean professionals forging out on their own, rather than assuming the “stay-at-home-until-marriage” routine that characterized the less worldly Chile of past generations.
The Bellas Artes neighborhood bristles with a kind of young entrepreneurship that makes for a really interesting afternoon or evening for visiting tourists: coffee shops, botiques, and restaurants. And not a single “made-in-the-USA” franchise in site. Also close by are the city’s main fish and vegetable (La Vega) markets, both featuring modestly priced eateries for the economically minded tourist. And it is all just a few minutes’ walk to the peacefulness of the Parque Forestal.
Best access: Metro Bellas Artes.
