Below is a list of the various places where you may recycle your solid waste. If staying at a hotel, apart-hotel, motel, bed& breakfast, hostel, etc. your first step is to inquire if this institution recycles and then follow the guidelines established for the different materials that are being recycled. Make sure you ask first, because the fact that there are no posted signs does not mean the absence of a recycling program. MATERIALS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED Glass (bottles, jars) plastic bottles aluminum cans paper cardboard e-waste TetraPak containers cell phones used clothing RECYCLING WHILE SIGHTSEEING There are canisters located on the streets where you may dispose of your glass and/or plastic bottles. Look for blue canisters that say either CODEFF or COANIQUEM. By disposing your glass bottles in these containers you are also contributing to two charitable causes that benefit from monies earned from the recycling of these items. They are Chile’s flora and fauna and Chile’s severely burned children. Yellow containers with the logo CENFA are for plastic bottles only. This organization provides help and support to Chile’s needy families. RECYCLING FROM YOUR HOME Speak with the administrator of your building (condos) and ask about their recycling program. There are at least 65 condos involved in this endeavor. If staying at someone’s home, make sure to inquire what the recycling laws are for that community. Some communities have their own recycling sites, e.g. Vitacura’s very popular Punto Limpio recyling site.
