THE DISCOTÉQUE OR LA VENDA SEXY

(Irán 3037, corner of Los Plátanos)

The Discotheque or La Venda Sexy (Iran 3037, corner of Los Platanos) (From the Rettig report)

Together with Londres 38, José Domingo Cañas and Villa Grimaldi, "The Discotheque" was a place frequented, during the period covered by this report, by those who eventually became the "detained-disappeared" of the DINA. For example, siblings Mario Fernando and Nilda Patricia Peña Solari, both members of MIR, were seen there, as were many others, before they disappeared.

"La Venda Sexy" (The Sexy Blindfold) was the name given to a house located in the Quilín sector of Santiago, at Irán 3037, near the intersection with Los Plátanos. It functioned as a detention center during the summer of 1975 until halfway through that year, parallel to Villa Grimaldi,... it was where the internal repression operations were centralized.

This house was apparently operated by a team of agents separate from those of Villa Grimaldi, since there are differences in the modes of operation and in the background given on the agents' identities.

The prisoners were kept blindfolded, several to a room, with men separated from women. The food was generally better than in the other centers and the treatment less brutal.

The agents followed a schedule similar to the common workday, leaving the guards in charge of the prisoners at night. After the agents left each night, the prisoners were not tortured and the rules were more relaxed, according to the guards' wishes. The center was also called "The Discotheque" because music was played constantly there.

The torture methods here were differentiated from those of the other centers in that they were more sexual in nature. Rape and sexual abuse of the women prisoners by agents and guards was common. Male prisoners were often victims of sexual abuse as well. The "grill" and electric shock treatments were also frequently used in the center. Torture sessions were alternated with periods of rest and better treatment by the guards as a method of obtaining the desired information.
