MUJERES INFIELES: A 108 MINUTE CHILEAN SOAP OPERA
(Nov. 26, 2004) Some signs that your girlfriend or wife may be cheating:
She locks herself in the bathroom to talk on her cell phone.
She has a separate cell phone that she pays for with prepaid phone cards so that the list of calls does not arrive.
New perfume or an increased preoccupation with her appearance.
Waxing – a woman almost never waxes for her husband.

ONLY THE STRONG ARE CURED
(Nov. 26, 2004) “There is only one reason why men become addicted to drugs: they are weak men. Only strong men are cured, and they cure themselves.” Martin H. Fischer.
No less than 2,520 staring eyes approach the spectator from the walls in the exhibition hall at Galería Animal. With 1,260 negative black and white passport photographs, Jara is presenting the raw and undressed faces of addiction.
A CONNING PLAN
“Yuxtaposiciones,” the photo exhibition by Arthur Conning, predictably delivers images of unusual juxtapositions. Unfortunately, though the content of most of the images is relatively interesting, the photos (taken in digital format) are flat and damagingly pixilated.
In some photos, however, the lack of depth seems purposeful and justified. Most photos from the series originally titled “The image as object: Reality or Illusion” juxtapose animate objects (usually people) with billboards or other ads containing photos of people. The flatness of these images merges all depths into one dimension, and, together with the composition, calls into question what was originally a three-dimensional person and what was an advertisement in the background. At times, only the strange poses or clothing of the models gives away the difference.

WHO NEEDS BOB WOODWARD?
(Nov. 26, 2004) It was with no small disquietude that we awaited the APEC summit, the publication of the torture report and the advent of the divorce law. Would the Chilean press be able to keep its eye on the ball as the country erupted into protests, recriminations and sunderings?
With relief the Diary can report that the austere daily La Tercera never wavered in its commitment to investigative slavering and afforded Britney Spears, international starlet and acute political commentator (witness her incision in “Fahrenheit 9/11”), a generous 907 words of coverage.
