THE ART OF THE GOAL
(Aug. 20, 2004) The beautiful game takes beautiful form in the new exhibition at the Museo de Bellas Artes. Commissioned by FIFA, the sport’s governing body, during the 2002 World Cup, ‘El Arte del Goal’ features painting and sculpture from around the world inspired by the spectacle of 22 men chasing a pig’s bladder.

“Chile is a country that is fanatic about football, “said Ricardo Fuentealba Fabio, Assistant Director of the museum. But the exhibition is not only for those already enchanted with the sport.

(Aug. 20, 2004) As the day winds down and streetlights ignite one may be tempted, as I was, to step away from the comings and goings of a bustling Vicuña Mackena and enter the strange calm of Gran Circo Teatro.

“Comforting? Well, not exactly. I passed a beautiful mural off to the left and the shadow of an outdoor stage and was directed toward the lone source of light, illuminating a vacant trapeze.
