NATIONAL BALLET BREATHES LIFE INTO NERUDA POETRY
(June 25, 2004) While “Carne de Aire” (Meat of Air) may not be the most romantic of titles for the Chilean National Ballet’s homage to Pablo Neruda, somehow it manages to sum up the poet’s relationship with the corporal and the ethereal. As the dancers twirl and leap to the sound of Neruda’s poetry, recited by the wonderfully gravelly-voiced Alexander Baxter, the words come alive and transcend the world of the imagination to become real, tangible movements.
