Affected Cleaning Ladies Try to Escape Reality

(June 18, 2004) On a recent, raw winter’s night my friends and I headed for the Matucana 100 Cultural Center in Quinta Normal. Located on the fringe of the city center, this eclectic complex of old and new architectural spaces is a fitting locale for the current production of Austrian playwright Werner Schwab’s “The Female Presidents: Or Our Ordinary Fascism,” directed by Jimmy Daccarett.

BIG MAGAZINE TAKES OVER MUSEO DE ARTE CONTEMPORANEO
Colorful, Cinematic Prints Capture Chilean Life As Pop Culture

(June 18, 2004) It is big, and it is clever. Big Magazine’s pop art photography exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo takes a wry look at modern life, turning everyday events into works of art. A man stands by the side of a micro, noting the time as it passes. A discarded shopping trolley lies on its side by the road. Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen lounges in a glass box, watched by a group of school children. The subject matter may be ordinary, but the resulting photographs are exceptional.
