URBAN ENCHANTMENT ON CALLE MOSQUETO
(June 11, 2004) One by one, the streets of Bellas Artes have charmed me: the winding cobblestone Lastarria, cafe-laden Monjitas, and Merced: a haven of used books and Arab pastry shops. And as if we Santiago Timers haven’t extolled the virtues of our beloved Bellas Artes neighborhood enough, allow me to sing its praises once more. There is another street that any foreigner calling Santiago home should be aware of, and that is calle Mosqueto.

BERLIN’S TRANSITIONAL ART SHOULD RESONATE WITH CHILEANS
(June 11, 2004) November 9, 1989 remains one of the most important dates in German, and indeed, World History. The Berlin Wall’s tenure as both a metaphoric and physical boundary between the West German Republic and East German Communist Regime ended that day. East and West Germany, separated by the wall in 1961, are still in the process of integration and healing.

Y LAS VACAS VUELAN: NEW CHILEAN CINEMA CAPTURES SANTIAGO
(June 11, 2004) The idea is not the most original. The camera work is shaky and at times queasy. The actors are unknown; the production team consisted of only seven people. And yet, against the odds, “Y Las Vacas Vuelan” (“And the Cows Fly”) is a surprisingly entertaining film.
