Casablanca - Chile Wine Country Lodging The Casablanca Valley built its reputation on creating Chile's top white wines - delicious Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs, in the past few years, however, the Valley has been producing some excellent reds as well. Veramonte and Viña Mar are both in Casablanca, within easy reach of Santiago. As far as wine cities go, the main town leaves something to be desired. However, two of Chile's most popular destinations are less than an hour outside Casablanca on the Pacific coast. Viña del Mar and Valparaiso both offer endless amounts of inns, hotels and hostels to choose from for wine lovers who are visiting Casablanca. In general, Viña del Mar is the swankier of the two cities - the summer playground of Santiago's elite (the presidential summer palace is in Viña). While budget lodging can be found in Viña, hotels tend to be pricier than in Valparaíso - although many are worth every peso. Hotel Oceanic is one of Viña's best. Perched on a cliff above the Pacific, the small cozy hotel has a pool and Jacuzzi with ocean views, not to mention an excellent restaurant. Valparaíso offers a range of lodging, from elegant inns to quaintly decorated youth hostels lining the cobblestone streets that wend up through the hills. This port city has been declared a World Heritage Monument by the UN - many of its buildings date back to the 1800's and have been meticulously restored. The best neighborhoods in the city are located atop the steep hills (cerros) and feature numerous, spectacular ocean views. Many of the city's inns are found on the Cerro Concepción, as well as great restaurants and chic cafés. The Hotel Brighton B & B is one of the more charming hotels on Cerro Concepción. Located right on top of the Concepción elevator (convenient for those who don't want to hike up the hill everyday), the Victorian building has old world charm as well as modern comforts (the building is actually relatively new). With only nine rooms, the hotel fills up quickly - reservations should be made in advance. Lodging in Chile's Wine Country Learn more about places to stay in the wine regions throughout Chile.
