Hot Spring Resorts in Southern Chile

Termas de Chillán

One of the best spas in Chile, Chillán has it all - top notch facilities in a great location. The thermal waters are heated by the nearby Chillán Volcano to an average of 140°F (60°C), and were declared "healing fountains" by the Department of Health in 1954. The Spa has indoor and outdoor pools and baths, equipped with water beds and hydromassage jets. There is a huge variety of treatments to enjoy - from aromatherapy to mud and clay to reflexology. The area surrounding the Termas de Chillán offers a variety of outdoor activities. Some of the best skiing in Chile is found here in the winter. For summer visitors there is mountain biking and climbing, fishing, golf, tennis and horseback riding.

How to get there: From Chillán head southeast towards the Andes on the road leading to Chillán Hot Springs and Ski Resort,- about 51 miles (82km). Hotel Termas de Chillan will arrange transportation from Chillan upon request.

Termas de Huife

Tucked away in a forest next to the Liucura River, the hot springs at Huife are heated by the nearby Villarrica Volcano to 100° - 136°F (38°-58°C). Facilities are well maintained, with two beautiful thermal outdoor pools, both an average 104°F. Jump in the river (supplied by Andes snowmelt) and to cool off after thermal baths or the sauna. The Spa offers therapeutic massage and reflexology, among other treatments.

Location: Region IX, Pucón

How to get there: From Pucón - take the road heading towards Caburgua Lake about 8 miles (13km) until you reach Huife Hot Springs detour.

Termas de Coñaripe

The low key hot springs resort at Coñaripe seamlessly blends modern facilities with the beautiful natural surroundings. The resort spa has left some springs untouched - guests can bath in the natural thermal baths in a beautiful outdoor setting. The pure waters are a comfortable temperature at 102°-104°F (39°-40°C). Facilities include a covered outdoor pool, thermal baths with hydromassage jets, steam and mud baths, as well as massages. The beautiful surrounding landscape can be explored by hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking. The vacation town of Coñaripe, with volcanic sand beaches, is a great spot to hangout as well.

How to get there: From Coñaripe take road leading towards Liquiñe about 9 miles (15km).The Conaripe Thermal Bath Resort can arrange transportation from Villarica or from Temuco airport.

Termas de Puyehue

Located in the gorgeous Lake District in the Puyehue National Park, Termas de Puyehue is one of Chile's most luxurious and well known hot springs resorts. Spa facilities at the resort are top notch, with indoor and outdoor hot and cold pools in garden settings. Hot pools are equipped with hyromassage jets and bubble beds, with water temperatures ranging from 91° -102°F (33°-39°C). Innovative spa treatments use seaweed, mineral waters, aromatherapy, mud, salts and herbs to tailor to individual needs. The Spa has its own line of natural cosmetic products.

How to get there: From Orsorno take road towards Lago Puyehue to Hot Springs, about 43 miles (70 km). Several transport companies provide transport from Osorno to Puyehue. Hotel Puyehue offers transport to and from Osorno.

Aguas Calientes

Located within the Parqure National Puyehue, Aguas Calientes is a low key affordable alterative to the Termas de Puyehue resort. Super hot water temperatures range from 135° - 164° (57°-75°C), but are cooled before use in spa pools. The resort offers basic spa services, indoor and outdoor hot and cold pools, as well as natural springs.

How to Get There: From Orsono take road towards Entre Lagos and Aguas Calientes about 50 miles (80km) east.
