These small beach communities are roughly 190 to 220 kilometers north of Santiago and 280 to 250 kms south of La Serena. They are primarily quiet fishing communities that become transformed into crowded beach resorts during the summer vacation months (December to February). Region of PichidanguiThey are inexpensive alternatives to the much more developed and pricey resorts in the Viña to Zapallar area. All three towns are situated directly on a beautiful beach on a cove. Small restaurants line each wharf area and offer reasonably priced fantastically fresh seafood. Los Vilos and Pichidangue are possibilities for surfing enthusiasts, the latter being a popular summer destination for catching some waves. As with most areas in this part of the country, the waves are inconsistant. Even still, all three towns offer numerous beaches within walking distance as well as deserted coves a few kilometers outside for those with transport.

Besides the beaches, you can find some nice walks here along the coast, which is covered in interesting rock formations and hidden caves.

The beach here is breathtaking--a blanket of soft white sand surrounded by eucalyptus tress, and no commercial development to mar the experience.

  Boat TourSightseeing Tours (Los Vilos)

Los Vilos center is probably the most lively of the three town, making it a fine place to spend a few days. Keep in mind that Los Vilos can be crowded in January and February. You can pass the time on the beach, by taking a boat outside through the harbor, or by visiting the local fish market. Isla de los Lobos, a seal colony made up of 1500 seals, is 200m off the coast, reachable by a jeep track.
