These small beach communities are roughly 190 to 220 kilometers north of Santiago and 280 to 250 kms south of La Serena. They are primarily quiet fishing communities that become transformed into crowded beach resorts during the summer vacation months (December to February).
They are inexpensive
alternatives to the much more developed and pricey resorts in the Viña
to Zapallar area. All three towns are situated directly on a beautiful
beach on a cove. Small restaurants line each wharf area and offer reasonably
priced fantastically fresh seafood. Los Vilos and Pichidangue are possibilities
for surfing enthusiasts, the latter being a popular summer destination
for catching some waves. As with most areas in this part of the country,
the waves are inconsistant. Even still, all three towns offer numerous
beaches within walking distance as well as deserted coves a few kilometers
outside for those with transport.  |
