Plaza de Armas:
This
beautiful plaza has 450 years of history behind it. It has massive
trees offering shade and numerous benches for those who want
to relax and enjoy the sea air. It is bordered by classic colonial
buildings that include the post office, two churches, the municipal
building, the cinema and two museums. The plaza is located at
the junction of Avenues Matte and Cordovez. It is also the starting
point for a relaxing walk down a treelined park all the way to
the beach. The park is known locally as the Parque de Potos (Park
of Bare Behinds) due to the many nude greek statues that line
it.

Beach, Swimming,
Surfing |
|
|
|
There are hundreds of
kilometers of surfable coastline both north and south of La Serena.
It must be noted, however, that the conditions are inconsistent.
Therefore, for the hard core surfer, all of the variables may
not be present at the same time. For beginners, there is usually
enough to be challenged. For more detailed info and photos, look
at La Serena in the Surfing section within the Sports and Recreation
directory.
